Save the Date: Tuesday, February 23, 2010 (Emma Willard’s birthday!)
We are pleased to welcome Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn to campus to discuss their work on the empowerment of women around the globe. The students will be given a copy of their book to read in advance of this visit, and we urge you to read along, get your book club to read along, and then head to Emma Willard for the day. We promise a good conversation and a healthy slice of birthday cake.

Kristof and WuDunn are co-authors of Half the Sky, The New York Times bestseller that documents the global need to attend to the education of girls and women to ensure a healthier world community. In addition, Kristof writes an Op-Ed column for The New York Times. WuDunn is an investment advisor, with a focus on philanthropy. Together, they won a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of China. They have also won a George Polk Award and an Overseas Press Club Award.

Kristof also won a second Pulitzer Prize for his commentary on human rights issues, along with the Michael Kelly Award, the Online News Association Award, and the ASNE Award. WuDunn, the first Asian-American to win a Pulitzer, has been an executive at The New York Times and worked in finance at Goldman Sachs and Bankers Trust.

Together, they have also written two previous books about Asia: Thunder from the East: Portrait of a Rising Asia and China Wakes: The Struggle for the Soul of a Rising Power.
